Are you OVER 35 and still teaching?
Spinning rifle from your wheelchair?
Teaching toe points from your walker?

Several of us Old Bags have recently been discussing our rights to provide a few new rules to the World of Colorguard, so suck it up young 'ens and take note. LOL. Feel free to add your own rules but be over 35 and only teaching (not marching).

Rules from Aged Instructors of Today's Guards:

The first two rules come from Shelba of Tampa....

1. NO MORE Crushed Velvet

2. NO MORE USAGE of the word "Independent"

the last winter guard show I went to in Malden...the girls were "OUTLOUD" counting!!!!!!!!! Denise Russell-Perry would have thrown a rifle at our faces if we even "MOUTHED" the numbers!!! and...where are your formations??? nothing is crisp!!!

I say members today need to learn how to throw a toss, and catch it w/ their feet planted in one place, no more moving half way across the floor to catch it, learn how to throw straight up, and I can guarantee it will come down exactly where you are standing. Technique Technique!!! definatly missing!

I reserve the right to pull the " I have been doing this longer than you have been alive" card when the 14 year old thinks she knows better. :-)

I tell mine, I don't know what your talking about! I'm not tired how can you be! Keep goin!!! lol.....
Comment by BJ Terrell on August 24, 2009 at 9:02pm
all I hear is "I'm tired" . I say "quit whining and make the counts snap". the kids today are pampered and wimpy.
Comment by Vickie on August 24, 2009 at 2:20pm
Steve is so right on!!! Catches need to be solid! Snap moves need to snap! Use your muscles!!! Don't fluff your moves, hit the counts like you mean it!!! If I can snap any piece of guard equipment, and I'm in my 50's, these young people need to me able to! I can show them and teach them how, but they need to build up the muscle memory and do it!!!

I agree with Renee and Andrianna, I tell my kids "Can't means Won't" and if my 48 year old body can make it to 3 sessions a week so could your young one. New Rule We reserve the right to teach it and then sit down for a while, ha ha you can't, keep working! Working with young ones is fun isn't it?
Comment by Steve Horne on August 23, 2009 at 3:01pm
I like snap rather than fluff! Bring back a quad with snap rather than a 6 with fluff.
Comment by Adrianna Game on August 22, 2009 at 10:00pm
If you "know", than do it!

And I'm very much with Renee, I tell my guard AND band members all the time that I don't want to hear can't, I'm more than twice their age, old enough to be their momma and I can do it!

No more sabres that spin like rifles that spin like sabres that are having an identity crisis.

Uber New Here

Soooooooooooo glad I was accepted here. Completely new. So.. Erm.. I guess I'll just say a few things about what I've done in color guard so far. Last year was my first season and it was a freakin' awesome season. I don't think I could have asked for a better show to start off my color guard life with. This year, though, I think it'll be even better. I'm starting rifle this year and I can't wait to see what our coach has planned for our show. It's Jakyll and Hyde. I never really thought I would…See More
