Centerville HS Grows "A Poison Tree"
Centerville High School Color Guard (Centerville, OH) presents their 2009 production: A Poison Tree.
"Revenge is sweeter than life itself..."
Based on the works of William Blake
Music: Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Sonata #2
William Blake’s "A Poison Tree" (1794) stands as one of his most intriguing poems, memorable for its vengeful feel and sinister act of deceit. Through images, punctuation, and word choice, Blake warns that remaining silent about our anger only hinders personal and spiritual growth, making us bitter, and that a grudge left unchecked becomes dangerous, possibly even murderous.
Program designer Byron Valentine is enthusiastic about the 2009 production adding “it’s an interesting and exciting change of pace for Centerville – a colorguard not typically known for producing shows with dark, dynamic emotional impacts – and the kids have embraced this new identity with much vigor.” Joe Sowders, new to the Centerville design team, will be staging the 2009 production. The colorguard is under the direction of Jodi Fairbanks.
Watch for Centerville’s production of A Poison Tree at the Dayton, Nashville and Indianapolis Power Regionals, as well as WGI World Championships in April.

The following quote provides the inspiration for the 2008 Centerville HS World Guard production of “It’s Not Easy Being Green”.
The words say “it’s not easy being green,” but the song is about knowing who you are. And in it you hear Jim Henson’s message most clearly. He believed that people are good and that they want to do their best and that no matter how or why we might be different from anybody else, we should learn to love who we are and be proud of it.” --Ray Charles
Performing on a black and white pond complete with lily pads and rippling water, and costumed in bright greens representing our amphibian friends; the 17 young ladies of Centerville will take you on a lyrical journey of discovery and self-appreciation with a soundtrack provided by 22 year old jazz artist Jesse Palter.
